Full Description

1969 original withdrawn 8-track stereo tape cartridge in Warner Bros. - Seven Arts die-cut outer box. This is the legendary second collaborative effort between Frank Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim. At the time, 3500 tapes were released, only to be withdrawn immediately. Warner Brothers even issued a recall to send back not only store stock, but copies that might have been sold to the public as well. This recording was NEVER released on any other format. It exists in its entirety ONLY as an 8-track cartridge. A few test pressing LPs were produced, but commercial LPs were never manufactured. However, LP front cover slicks were printed and a few have surfaced over the years. It is rumored that only THREE (3) copies of this 8-track tape from the original 3500 survived the recall. One of these was sold in 2006, the other has yet to surface. The reason "Sinatra Jobim" was withdrawn is not fully known, but speculation is that Frank Sinatra disliked the artwork as well as the versions of some of the songs. This is not only one of the most collectible Frank Sinatra items we have ever offered for sale, it is also unquestionably the scarcest 8-track tape in existence. It may also be the best condition example of the three known copies! We played the entire tape all the way through and it plays perfectly and sounds great! Fortunately, the roller used in this "Dynapak" cartridge is plastic. Rubber rollers tended to decay and ruin some tapes. Because of the age of the pads in the tape, it would not be recommended to play this multiple times, although it is currently functioning perfectly.
