Full Description

Extremely rare 1978 set of seven 12" metal acetates of tracks from the Columbia Records 1978 album. Each acetate plays at 33 1/3 RPM and is one-sided, except "Candy's Room" which is two-sided. Titles included here are Badlands (Take 23), Something In The Night (Take 42), Candy's Room (Takes 13 & 42), Promised Land (Take 5), Factory (Take 28), Streets Of Fire (Take 28). This comprises seven of the ten songs on the released album. These acetates were cut on April 12, 1978, almost two months before the LPs release date. Consequently, four of the acetates feature alternate versions than the released LP. Mostly the differences are subtle, but here is a breakdown: The Promised Land has the most dramatic differences in that it is missing the guitar solo part from 1:58-2:15 and has an additional guitar part from 3:09-3:16 (this is really a background guitar part that almost sounds like a background vocal), quicker fade by about 0:05. Darkness On The Edge Of Town has some slightly different vocal parts most notable at 3:08 where the word "ready" is inserted in the line, "I'll be there on time, ready to pay the cost." Candy's Room Take 13 has extra reverb on vocals and some extra delays on vocals, most notable in the spoken word intro. Candy's Room Take 42 has very dry vocal, most notable on spoken word intro and less whisper on the final word in the song, "tonight" at 2:36 Each acetate is in at least VG+ condition and all play well, but with some light background noise. "Promised Land" has a 1/2" scratch at the beginning which causes pops about six times, but does not skip. These are 100% genuine and guaranteed for life. An amazing Springsteen set!
