IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT ROCKAWAY & RSD BLACK FRIDAY 11/19/2015
Dear Rockaway Friends, Supporters and Record Store Day Black Friday Fans, In regards to our Los Angeles retail store, Rockaway has evaluated our participation in Record Store Day Black Friday and has decided that we will not be involved this year. That means that we will not be carrying any of the Black Friday 2015 releases. We've given this a LOT of thought. Among other things, we feel that the ever-increasing amount of releases, the nature of many of the releases, and the high costs (both wholesale and retail) of the releases has gotten somewhat out of hand and is becoming contrary to the original spirit of the day.
REMEMBERING THE CAPITOL SWAP MEET 11/03/2015
On the weekend of October 24th and 25th, 2015, Rockaway Records set up a booth at the inaugural WAX Record Fair in the parking lot of the Capitol Records Tower in Hollywood. It was very poignant for us at Rockaway since my brother (and Rockaway co-owner) Wayne and I first started selling records in the adjacent parking lot back in 1978! That was at a monthly record show informally called "The Capitol Swap Meet", although, unlike the WAX Record Fair, there was no formal connection to Capitol Records itself. The location certainly brought back some great (and not so great) memories of those days.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER PETE TOWNSHEND SMASHES HIS GUITAR AT A 1968 WHO CONCERT 10/21/2015
It was the summer of 1968 and Vance Rabius walked into the Jenkins Music Store in downtown Kansas City to purchase tickets for an upcoming Quicksilver Messenger Service concert. While standing in line, he watched an employee put up a poster advertising a new show: The Who at the Municipal Auditorium on Thursday, August 22nd.
WHAT RECORDS ARE WE LOOKING TO BUY? 07/21/2014
Records have been around for a long time now and it’s still a big, wide world of records out there, so that is a tough question. There is no definitive, black-and-white, one-size-fits-all answer because the vinyl market is so varied and changes constantly. There are TONS of records out there that we would love to buy, but there are plenty more that we are not interested in. That's just the way it is.
